THE NEW PLAQUES

This was followed, on Sunday 13th September 2009, by the plaque to JOHN BELLINGHAM, probably St Neots’ most notorious character. He shot the unpopular Spencer Percival in the Lobby of the House of Commons on 11th May 1812. This is the only occasion on which a serving British prime minister has been assassinated.

The unveiling was performed by museum curator Anna Mercer. The plaque is situated on the Huntingdon Street side of the building that forms the corner with Cambridge Street, said to be the building where John Bellingham was born.
